I recently stayed at the Suginoi Hotel and it was an amazing experience. From the modern “Sorakan” rooms to the incredible onsen and dining options, this hotel has a lot to offer. Let’s dive into the details!

Suginoi Hotel Overview

The Suginoi Hotel is a well-known large-scale resort in Beppu. It’s famous for its premium “Sorakan” rooms, which opened recently, and the “Sorayu,” an infinity onsen that feels like it’s floating in the sky.

Getting There & First Impressions

I started my trip by flying into Oita Airport. The first thing I noticed was the hovercraft, which was pretty cool to see zipping across the water. They only run four times a day, but if the timing works, it’s a unique way to travel.

I rented a car from Times Car Rental, which was conveniently close to the airport and within walking distance, so no shuttle needed.

The drive to the Suginoi Hotel was about 42km, a smooth 40-minute drive on the highway.

The “Sorakan” Experience

I booked the “Sorakan” rooms, the newest addition to the Suginoi Hotel. Check-in was at 3 PM, so I dropped off my luggage and took care of the paperwork ahead of time. The rooms and the lobby were incredibly clean and modern.

The room was spacious. I could easily spread out two large suitcases without feeling cramped. The luxurious interior made me feel pampered throughout my stay, which was fantastic.

Dining at “Shida Palace”

After a relaxing onsen experience, I headed to “Shida Palace” for dinner. The place was bustling, even on a weekday.

One of the best things was the all-you-can-drink alcohol, which is fantastic for those who enjoy a drink. I sampled different dishes, and the izakaya-style atmosphere made the drinks even better.

Eating in the lively atmosphere made me feel like I was truly experiencing Beppu. Haha!

Yakiniku at “Arirang Riku”

On the second night, I opted for a quieter dining experience and booked a table at “Arirang Riku,” the yakiniku restaurant within the hotel. It was a nice change from the busy buffet.

The ability to have a private room for our meal was a huge plus. It cost a little extra per person, but it was worth it when I saw the quality of the meat.

The perfectly marbled beef was melting in my mouth. (Seriously, the best meat ever!) The meal finished with cold noodles, which was the perfect ending.

Breakfast at “Terrace”

For breakfast on the last day, I went to “Terrace” right at 7 AM. I heard the queues get crazy after 7:30 AM, so I made it a priority to be there early.

The food selection was excellent, and the views from the window while I ate were incredible. It was a very relaxed way to start the day. I was happy to finish my meal before the crowds arrived.

From the facilities to the service, the hotel paid attention to every detail, allowing me to relax and enjoy the end of my stay.

Final Thoughts

Before heading to the airport, I soaked my feet in the foot bath to ease any remaining travel fatigue. The flight home was smooth, and it was a very comfortable experience overall.

The view of the Ikata Nuclear Power Plant and the clear seas during the flight was a perfect way to end the trip. Though the flight was short, the memories of Beppu will last.
