Why You Need to Visit Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay, located at 18 Marina Gardens Dr, is an absolute must-see when you’re in Singapore. The best time to go is between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM, especially if you want to catch the first show.

You can get in for free and see the outdoor gardens, the main drawcard is the “Garden Rhapsody” show, it’s seriously awesome. The Supertree structures are a futuristic spectacle. They’re a symbol of Singapore blending nature and technology in the city.

My Experience

After a quick bite at the hotel lounge, I headed straight to Gardens by the Bay. I jumped off at Bayfront Station, and following the crowds, you could see the massive Supertrees in the distance.

Seeing them up close was incredible. These vertical gardens, standing 25 to 50 metres tall, made everyone look tiny. Finding a good spot was a bit of a challenge, as the prime viewing areas were already packed with people who’d arrived early to grab the best positions.

Eventually, I found a spot, and waited for the show to begin. The light show was a sight to behold.

The music started, and the garden transformed into something like a giant, outdoor club. The colours changed with the music, and the whole thing was super impressive. My wife and I were just staring, completely blown away.

We’re usually not big on theme parks and super-artificial things, but this was different. I honestly couldn’t believe this quality of show was free! It really showed how serious Singapore is about tourism. You’ve got to see this for yourself; the photos don’t do it justice!

As the show went on, the colours shifted from blue to green and then to this really cool purple. The OCBC Skyway, with people walking across it above, added to this surreal, sci-fi vibe.

My wife was a bit scared of heights, so she watched from below, but I’m definitely going to walk the Skyway tomorrow! The 15-minute show went by in a flash. After it finished, everyone was just standing there, gazing up at the trees.

When the show ends, everyone heads out at once, so it can get crowded. We walked towards the Marina Bay Sands, which is easy to get to. The moment we stepped inside the mall, we were gobsmacked by the scale of it.

The shops went on forever, and the ceilings were ridiculously high. Seeing a canal with boats inside the mall made it all seem unreal. Watching people take rides on the sampan boats, I thought, “This is what serious money looks like!” haha.

When we went outside, we saw the ‘Rain Oculus’ with its giant water vortex. I missed the show as I was a bit late, but the design alone was pretty cool.

Walking onto the promenade, with the cool breeze and the night views of Marina Bay, was amazing. Seeing the city lights reflecting in the water gave me a true sense of being on holiday.

It was a night where I felt Singapore’s unique blend of nature and technology. If you’re planning a trip to Singapore, the ‘Garden Rhapsody’ show is a must-do! Don’t miss it!
